Regurgitate were one of the defining bands of the early goregrind scene. Formed in Sweden in 1990 by members of Crematory, the band drew heavy inspiration from Carcass’s first two albums and quickly established its own sound.
Over the course of their career, Regurgitate released four full-length albums and numerous split releases. Shortly after Crematory disbanded, the band recorded its debut album, Effortless Regurgitation of Bright Red Blood, in 1994. The album attracted the attention of Relapse Records, which reissued it in 1999 as an expanded edition titled Effortless Regurgitation… The Torture Sessions. The re-release included bonus tracks from the Concrete Human Torture EP as well as other early recordings.
Following the success of the reissue, Relapse signed Regurgitate for a new recording contract. The band released its second album, Carnivorous Erection, in 2000. The album expanded Regurgitate’s audience and cemented its reputation as one of the leading acts in the goregrind scene.
Regurgitate followed with its third album, Deviant, in 2003, again through Relapse Records. Although injuries and other circumstances limited the band’s live appearances in support of the release, Deviant received positive reviews and favorable coverage from the music press.
In 2005, Regurgitate finally made its first U.S. appearance at Maryland Deathfest. The band also performed that summer at Obscene Extreme in the Czech Republic. Later that autumn, Regurgitate entered the studio to record its fourth album, Sickening Bliss, and continued the sessions through the spring of 2006 before releasing the album in the autumn of that year. Around that time, Johan Jansson (Interment) joined the band on bass. The first gig with Johan took place in September in Åland.
Regurgitate disbanded in 2009, bringing nearly two decades of activity to an end. In 2015, guitarist Urban Skytt joined General Surgery. More recently, F.O.A.D. Records reissued the band’s first two albums on vinyl, introducing these landmark releases to a new generation of collectors and fans.
