Black Hole helped pioneer the Italian Dark Sound alongside Death SS, Paul Chain, and The Black. Robert Measles formed the band in 1981. After releasing several demos, they released their legendary debut, Land of Mystery, in 1985. Mauro Tollini joined on drums and Nicola Murari on guitars, completing the classic power-trio lineup.
In 1987, Black Hole split up. Mauro and Nicola then formed Epitaph, which continued Black Hole’s early doom metal style with a heavier approach. Meanwhile, Robert led several new incarnations of Black Hole over the following years. These lineups produced albums such as Living Mask (2000) and Evil in the Dark (2017). Both releases took a more experimental direction.
More recently, High Roller Records reissued Land of Mystery. The label also released a demo anthology titled Beyond the Gravestone. Meanwhile, Mauro and Nico remain active with Epitaph. They continue to release albums and play live across Europe.
