Into Darkness is an Italian death metal band formed in 2011. The group originated in Como before later relocating to Milan, Lombardy. They have always been influenced by the Dutch death metal scene of the late 80s and early 90s. Asphyx, Pentacle, Thanatos, Sinister, Delirium, Mystic Charm, Sempiternal Deathreign, Necro Schizma, Beyond Belief…
The band’s lyrical themes draw from astronomy, from a scientific point of view. Distant planets, cosmonauts, space expeditions, cosmic phenomena…
Into Darkness experienced several interruptions during its early years. The band entered a hiatus in November 2014 after an active initial period. In 2016, the group briefly returned for a live performance. Then, in 2017, Doomed Warrior reactivated Into Darkness as its sole member.
Doomed Warrior handled all instruments and vocals during this period. Later, the project expanded into a full band once again. The current lineup features Doomed Warrior on vocals, guitars and bass, Santo on drums, and Filippo on guitars and backing vocals.
Into Darkness began its discography with the self-titled demo Into Darkness in 2012. The band quickly followed with the Cosmic Chaos demo in 2013. Later that year, the group released the EP Transmigration of Cosmic Creatures into the Unknown. The release made some noise in the underground scene. Doomentia Records released it as a 7″, with artwork by Chris Moyen.
In 2014, Into Darkness contributed to the 7″ split EP with Ghoulgotha, Shifted to the Red End of the Spectrum / Abnormal Paralysis. The band continued with another split 7″ with Profanal, 3C 273 / Close the Coffin, in 2015.
After its return, Into Darkness released the First Encounters demo in 2018. The band’s next major release arrived with the Cassini-Huygens EP in 2023, released by Invictus Productions
In 2025, the compilation 2012-2018 Data Collection, released by Unholy Domain, gathered material from the band’s earlier years. The release documented the evolution of Into Darkness across its formative period.
Then, in 2026, Dying Victims Productions released its first full-length album, Route to the Outer Side. The album represented a major milestone after more than a decade of activity.
