Deströyer 666 is an Australian extreme metal band formed in Melbourne in 1994. K.K. Warslut founded the group after leaving Bestial Warlust.

Initially, Deströyer 666 existed as Warslut’s solo project. He handled the guitars, bass, and vocals during the group’s earliest recordings.

In 1994, the project released the Six Songs with the Devil demo. Soon afterward, it evolved into a full band.

The band then issued Violence Is the Prince of This World. Matt Skitz and Criss Volcano contributed drums to the recording.

Deströyer 666 soon expanded its lineup. Shrapnel joined on guitar, while Bullet Eater took over bass. Ballistic Howitzer handled the drums.

Together, they recorded Unchain the Wolves. Modern Invasion Music released the album in 1997. The record established the band’s blend of black metal, death metal, and thrash.

Moreover, Unchain the Wolves pushed the band beyond Australia’s underground. Its aggressive songwriting combined fast thrash riffs with darker black-metal atmospheres.

Deströyer 666 continued developing that sound through the late 1990s. They recorded their next major release, Phoenix Rising, in 1999.

However, the album arrived in 2000. Season of Mist released it in November of that year. The record strengthened the band’s international reputation.

Meanwhile, Deströyer 666 began touring Europe extensively. The group’s growing audience eventually influenced a major change in its history.

In 2001, the band relocated from Australia to Europe. Warslut settled in Eindhoven, Netherlands, while Shrapnel later moved to London.

The move also brought further lineup changes. Nevertheless, Deströyer 666 continued recording and touring. Their next album appeared in 2002.

Cold Steel… for an Iron Age expanded the band’s established blackened-thrash approach. However, the band later stated that it had not approved the album’s original artwork.

In 2003, Deströyer 666 released Terror Abraxas. Despite being an EP, it features some of the band’s most iconic songs, such as “Trialed by Fire”, “A Breed Apart” or “Terror”. Iron Pegasus Records took care of the release.

Afterward, Deströyer 666 entered a difficult period. Business frustrations and lineup changes contributed to a hiatus. Eventually, the band returned with renewed momentum.

In 2009, the group released Defiance. The album marked an important songwriting change. Warslut focused on lyrics, while Shrapnel and Matt Razor composed the music.

The band followed Defiance with To the Devil His Due in 2010. The compilation gathered tracks that had previously appeared on limited seven-inch releases.

Deströyer 666 then returned to full-length albums. Wildfire arrived in February 2016 and continued the band’s established blackened-thrash sound.

Two years later, the group released the Call of the Wild EP. It maintained the band’s emphasis on fast riffs, aggressive vocals, and traditional heavy-metal influences.

In December 2022, Deströyer 666 released Never Surrender. The album became their sixth full-length studio record.

The record continued the band’s combination of black metal and thrash. Season of Mist described it as a forceful return to the group’s established style.

Ultimately, Deströyer 666 have built their career around speed, aggression, and a deliberately uncompromising approach. Their history spans more than three decades, multiple countries, and numerous lineup changes.
